• USCIS Form N-426, Request for Certification of Military or Naval Service;

People who are no longer in the military can submit an uncertified Form N-426, along with DD Form 214, discharge papers, and separation documents.

Naturalization through military service isn’t only for active personnel. Certain family members of qualifying U.S. service members might also qualify for U.S. citizenship. This includes the husbands or wives of service members.

Once you have prepared all your forms and supporting documents, you will need to mail them to the USCIS.

According to USCIS information for Former Military Members, if you are applying for naturalization based on former military service, you must complete your naturalization interview and take the Oath of Allegiance in the United States.

If you are residing outside of the United States and are unable to enter the United States with a visa, you may request parole by filing Form I-131, Application for Travel Document, concurrently with your N-400 application. Write “Military N-400” at the top of Form I-131.
