You only have to access USCIS’ Case Status Online directly through the USCIS website: uscis.gov.

To check your case status using USCIS online tool, you must have your case receipt number. This receipt number is a unique 13-character identifier that USCIS provides for each application or petition it receives, and it’s used to identify and track cases.

According to USCIS information, the receipt number consists of three letters followed by 10 numbers. The letters can be EAC, WAC, LIN, SRC, NBC, MSC or IOE. You can find it on the notices of action USCIS has sent you.

Attention when entering your receipt number, you should omit dashes (”-“), but you can include all other characters, including asterisks (“*”) if they are listed on your notice as part of the receipt number.

Follow the below steps to check your USCIS case status online.

  • Enter the number without any spaces;
  • The field is not case sensitive so you can enter your number in all caps or small letters;
  • Click on the “Check Status” button;

Once the page refreshes you will see information about your case. You may register for an account to receive e-mail notifications whenever your case status changes.

Who Cannot Check Their USCIS Case Status Online?

A case status cannot be checked without a Receipt Number, also known as a Case Number. Your Receipt Number is a 13-digit number that begins with three letters, such as WAC or EAC. The Receipt Number is generated when a new Receipt Notice is created. Any Notice without a Receipt Number cannot be looked up on the USCIS website.
